fastorch SBS · Dual reinforced polyester and glass torch grade membranes· Rated by Underwriters Lab, Warnock Hersey and Factory Mutual· Superior fatigue resistance compared to conventional torch grade materials· Available in 6 colorsDESCRIPTION: fastorch SBS is our family of torch grade membranes. Roofing systems designed around a fire rated fastorch SBS cap membrane are rated by Underwriters Lab and Warnock Hersey as a Class A fire rated system. fastorch SBS membranes are modified with SBS, a synthetic rubber which provides a high muti directional strength, excellent cold temperature flexibility, elongation and recall properties superior to traditional modified or non modified systems. Such properties provide fireguard SBS with unusual resistance to "thermal shock", a major contributor to roof failure. USAGE: fastorch SBS is used as a cap or as an interply membrane in projects requiring torch grade products. Granulated fastorch products can be applied without any additional coatings. All fastorch grades can be applied on existing built-up roofs in reroof applications. STORAGE: Material should be stored on end, in a dry location. Assure that materials are kept clean, and away from excessive heat or cold; do not remove labels or tear off protective covering until ready for application; store in an enclosed area where temperature is above 50° F and below 90° F. Materials should not be stored more than two high without protective bracing. APPLICATION All roof decks shall provide positive drainage, and sloped to prevent ponding water. A minimum slope of ¼" per foot is recommended by ARMA (Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Application) and UBC (Uniform Building Code, section 3207.A). Drains and outlets should be installed to remove water completely from the roof surface. All decks must be firm, solid, free of sharp edges or depressions, free of moisture or effects of freezing, free of dust or debris and capable of supporting all anticipated deck loads. Slope Requirements: For slopes greater than 1/2" per foot; run all membranes parallel to the incline. Fasten the cap membrane on the leading edge, using staggered pattern 6" on center; side laps fastened 2" from edge, 12" o.c. All fasteners should be mopped over with asphalt and lapped by the next cap sheet. Cut the membranes to length as follows: 1/2"- 2" per foot slope 17' 2"- 3" per foot slope 11' Guidelines: Torch application is not approved when ambient temperature is below 35° F. Residual moisture in substrate and roofing materials can be trapped in the system and cause blistering. Do not apply roofing during precipitation, or when decks are wet from water, snow or frost. Acid tech all metal surfaces with full strength distilled vinegar. Do not use asphalt primer. SBS modified bitumen membranes are much more flexible than APP membranes. Overheating of the underside of the membrane will cause excessive softness on the top side and even cause the granule surface to run. The factory applied burn off film on the underside of all MBTechnologys fastorch SBS grades will easily guide the applicator through a smooth application process. In all applications (except on the first layer of a two layered system on primed structural concrete decks) the membrane should be fully bonded to the deck. Special care must be taken to insure proper application of fastorch SBS membranes in temperatures below 40° F. Material may have to be unrolled and relaxed in cold weather prior to application. This will reduce wrinkles during torching. Flashing Install all base flashings at roof wall junctures, projections and expansion joint curbing by torchwelding. Special care shall be taken to generously preheat the surface to which the flashing is being applied prior to heating the bottom of flashing membranes. Manufacturers detailed flashing drawings and application procedures shall be observed and strictly followed. Nail all flashings 4" - 6" on center. Wood, Plywood, Lightweight Concrete, Poured Concrete and Insulation Starting at low point of the roof, apply the modified SBS cap sheet perpendicular to the slope in a shingle fashion, with a minimum 3" side laps and 6" end laps. A flow of about ¼" bitumen must be obtained around all seams. Offset end laps a minimum of 36". For slopes of 1"-2" per lineal foot apply material parallel to slope; back nail head laps 2" from the edge, 6" o.c. and side laps 8" o.c. All side laps must be staggered 18" between successive plies. At the end of each days work, temporary waterstops shall be installed to protect from water penetration. Waterstops shall be completely removed before continuation of application. TECHNICAL SERVICES Latest copy of MBTechnology's specification manual must be referenced prior to any application. A comprehensive Specification manual with isometric flashing details can be obtained through your approved distributor or by calling toll free at 1-800-621-9281. WARRANTY Application should be in strict accordance to MBTechnologys recent specification manual. Warranty is provided subject to limitations. Duration of warranty is from 10 to 20 years depending on the system being applied. TECHNICAL INFORMATION - fastorch SBS
